Today at a press conference, the company “Kyivstar” announced the launch of 4G in Ukraine. The operator said the timing of the emergence of a fourth generation network, including the names of the cities the first to try it out.
The first base station of the fourth generation, “Kyivstar” will be installed in Kiev, Kharkov, Dnepr, Odessa, Uzhgorod, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil and Lviv in April.
The President of Kyivstar Petro Chernyshov said: “the Launch of 4G in the 2600 MHz frequencies should occur in April. This coating is much less than the existing 3G. This is only the launch in 2600 MHz. Town-the lucky ones – it’s Lviv, Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv and Odessa, of course. But there are some points that are not associated with cities. Odessa recreation (Zatoka and others), there are border crossings, because there are a huge number of people accumulates, and given the efficiency of the Ukrainian border, people need something to do while they are there in the queue. We take care of that since April.”

As for the mass coverage 4G Internet access on 1800 MHz frequencies, it will start in July this year.
“And when we launch 4G already at frequencies of 1800, our cover will be very massive, almost as big as we have now with 3G. Why? Because this is a completely different frequency. 2600 MHz is intended primarily for relief of those points, which consumes a huge amount of data, for centers of large cities, border crossing points on the border, etc. But 1800 is the standard of the 4G frequencies that are used around the world in order to build coverage”, – said Chernyshov.
So, now we have to wait for the results of the second auction of 4G in the 1800 MHz band, which will show us the final picture of the distribution of frequencies between operators. After that we can expect announcements of new tariff plans, as well as the beginning of mass deployment of 4G networks in Ukraine.
