With 5G smartphones appear more and more often. Users expect to increase network speeds. The media only write about that it will work in Russia. Other media they argue, and say that the Ministry of defence does not give the frequency and the wait is not worth it. A lot of information, but to sense from it a little. One thing is clear for sure — many people want to ”touch” 5G with my hands. It is tempting to street speed in times above, than when connected to your home Wi-Fi. That’s just not all ponder, why do we need 5G network and what they will bring us. Meanwhile, opening this door, we’re never going back to my old life.
The speed of communication networks
The network of the fifth generation that became the headline of many news broadcasts and YouTube channels are a logical extension of existing networks.
At the time, the first generation networks, the implementation of which on a commercial basis began in 1984, were given a maximum of 2 KB/sec. To say that it is very small, is not necessary, but time has passed since then for more than 30 years. The standard was analog and assumed only voice communication.
Then there was the second generation, massively launched in 1991. Speed increased significantly! Sounds nice, but she was still only 14 KB/sec. And this speed is developed, that is, ”downhill with a tail wind”. But the standard became digital and presupposes the transmission of text messages (SMS). The development of this generation’s version of 2.5 G. the Speed jumped to 300 KB/sec, and we learned about such standards as GPRS and EDGE already allow the grief to use the Internet.
Here's another article on the subject: what is the complexity of creating a 5G smartphones
3G was able to overclock even more, already up to 3.5 MB/sec. Then we started talking for the first time on mobile Internet surfing. Even now such speeds though seem ridiculous, but allow us to check email and write a message in the messenger. The beginning of the third generation dates back to 2002. Five years later, the development of generation has increased the speed about 40 MB/sec.
And finally we came to the conclusion that love, when it works, and so hated, when stops working. Fourth generation network (4G or LTE) gave us the speed with which it is possible to live. Under certain tweaks such networks it is possible to disperse up to 1 GB/sec. Of course, this is under ideal conditions and minimum load, but it is possible, and I personally saw it when MTS jointly with Qualcomm in Ufa was tested by means of upgrading their networks.
For normal use, data loading, communication and play real LTE speeds, of around 40 MB/sec, more than enough. With this speed it is even possible to download applications and updates. So why do we need more?
Why do we need 5G?
The network of the fifth generation started to create recently. The first full commercial network appeared only in the middle of this year in Korea. Now the network is only in major cities, but soon they should appear in 85% of settlements of the country.
Chapter Honor spoke about the serious problem of contemporary 5G smartphones
In other countries there is an experimental network of the fifth generation. For example, in the U.S. it is mainly Verizon. In Russia, MegaFon and Tele 2 launched a trial network segments in that region and Luzhniki stadium. At the moment between MTS and Huawei signed an agreement to promote the development of 5G on the territory of our country. The agreement can truly be called strategic, it was signed in the presence of Vladimir Putin and XI Jinping.
The complexity of development of such networks lies in the fact that those frequencies that are taken as standard for 5G worldwide, in Russia and China traditionally are occupied by the military. For this reason, to unify the means of communication will be problematic, but have to do it. Otherwise, the deployment of networks just don’t make sense.
As the network of the fifth generation will change our future?
The Internet of things
Objectively we can say that network fifth generation in everyday life are almost not needed. Maximum speed up to 5 GB/sec. Of course, the user will not get such speed in their smartphone as it will have to share her with everyone, but this is the first reason for the need for such speeds. Until we have enough of what is, but about a tenfold acceleration will increase the capacity of the network and in future will allow to forget about the critical drawdown speed at peak times.
This would be especially helpful even for users with smartphones and tablets, and gadgets from the Internet of things. When every owner of a smartphone will appear on the average on 5-6 devices, including smart heater, smart home sensors, appliances and everything that is connected to the network, and then it will appear the necessity of increasing the speed.
In addition, the network of the fifth generation allow to connect up to one million devices per square kilometre. It very much and will bring to the network almost every cleaner.
Unmanned vehicles of the future
Another advantage of the 5G is very low latency, which should not exceed 1 MS. It’s good for everything, including the Internet of things, but for automated systems of transport management is not just important, but critical. You can develop a system of communication of unmanned vehicles, but if this communication will go a long time such transport would be unacceptable.
Many systems have already been developed and the emergence of networks that allow to implement this work will significantly accelerate the emergence of truly Autonomous vehicles. Of course, this will not happen in a year, two or even three, but now it is capable of connecting cars to the network and give them the opportunity to receive important notifications or share other information. Even if it will only stream music in Hi-Res quality whether it is bad?
Play on your smartphone or computer. You can even play online and modern networks provide a level of latency, allowing very comfortable to play in online shooter.
Let's discuss in our Telegram chat, what difficulties should be overcome mobile gaming.
If you reduce the latency and increase the speed even more, you can provide games on a remote server. That is, implement what is called cloud gaming. This will be a major step in the development of the gaming industry.
Minimum signal delay and the extensive presence in the future will allow you to create first aid when the technician will remotely operate or advise of who provides assistance to the needy person. People at this point can be connected to the apparatus, transmitting it as a remote specialist.
A bit fanciful, but similar experiments had already been carried out and the doctors did the surgery, being in the hundreds or even thousands of kilometers from the operating room. Given the capabilities of modern robots, like the DaVinci, it’s not that difficult from a technical point of view. Would be a connection.
Other uses 5G
I can give many other examples of how ultra-fast network with minimal delays will change our world. They will all be varying degrees of realism, but one thing is for sure — high speed Internet everywhere exactly will change our attitude to the world and to use its capabilities. Even watching videos in high resolution at any point of the city, and even without delays, will become the norm. It was pretty cool!
This time the acceleration will indeed be a breakthrough. Before the network is just catching up with the needs of Internet users, giving them more speed for surfing and downloading. Now the speed is already enough and the network is leaning towards prospects, not reducing the backlog. Let’s see what will happen next. But then will the sixth generation, which is forecast to arrive by 2030. Already captures the spirit, what awaits us there. Or maybe the dire predictions come true the creators of dystopia. Only time will tell. At least now the creators of the technology will not be able to refer to the fact that they have no normal networks. Let them work!
