Many users do not realize what a vast possibilities provides such a powerful tool like Automator. At first glance, the program is quite complex to learn, but understand, you can see that the control is pretty intuitive and clear. Today we will create a service that will automatically sort the files into folders.
Many Mac users store all downloaded files in “Downloads”. Over time, this folder grows to larger sizes and to find the necessary information in it becomes difficult, if not to resort to search. Automator can make this task easier — by creating a special service, we will be able to sort files with a particular extension in the folder.
For a good example, take the Downloads folder and filter out all the images.
- Run the Automator app. This can be done through Spotlight, or in any other convenient way;
- In the opened window select “New document”, specifying the section “Action folder”;
- Now we need to find in the search, and then add in the right part of the program the following steps in order:
To install these objects Finder (indicated by the “Downloads” folder or any other at your discretion);
To the contents of the folder (leave unchanged);
To filter objects Finder — (specify the file format for sorting. In our case it is image);
To move the objects to the Finder (creates a folder, which will automatically otsortirovyvaya image, and then added to the cycle).
- Then go to the menu and save the action folder, giving it any name. You’re done!
To make sure that the script will work correctly, click on the “Downloads” folder, right click and select “configure folder actions”. Here, you should see our action;
To try out the service in action, just move any image in the folder “Downloads”. After a few seconds it will be automatically moved to the previously specified folder us (Image). In the same way, you can set rules for other file types. A simple and efficient sorting method.
