Samsung has long been at the forefront of the technology of mobile cameras. But how did it get there? Well, it all started almost two decades ago, when in 2000 the company introduced its first camera phone. Evolved as the cameras in Samsung phones
The infographic below starts with the first Samsung camera phone called the SCH-V200. Launched in 2000, the device was equipped with a camera 0.35 MP and allowed to store up to 20 pictures, although you can’t view them on the phone itself. A few years later, Samsung released the first phone that can shoot a selfie. SCH-X590 (so then called the phones in those days) was a flip phone with a camera built right into the hinge. It was a rotating camera that allows users to take pictures of both the front and rear. By the way, Samsung recently introduced (similar) technology rotating camera with Galaxy A80.
Then Samsung moved on to other phones, the ruler of which is called “flip-style”, presenting a number of new products. The phone is the SCH – V420 2003 was installed new hinge that allows to rotate the screen in landscape orientation. You could literally take photos or record videos at different angles without even moving. Two years later, Samsung decided to go even further by releasing the world’s first phone with a 7 megapixel camera. In fact, the SCH-V770 was revolutionary in many ways. He had a wide-angle and telephoto lenses, 3x optical zoom, 5x digital zoom and autofocus.
Finally, in 2010, after a decade of revolutionary innovations in the field of mobile photography, Samsung introduced the first smartphone Galaxy S. Equipping it with the main camera of 5 MP that supports a large set of shooting modes such as Panorama, “Stop Motion” and “Cartoon Shot,” the Galaxy S laid the Foundation for an entirely new generation mobile cameras. Its touch display is also forced people to reconsider the concept of how to interact with their phones.
Since then, Samsung has introduced several new features for the cameras of their smartphones. The Galaxy S3 in 2012, a burst mode “Burst Shot”, which you can do up to 20 shots in a row on the 8-megapixel camera. Then came the Galaxy S4 Zoom with camera on 16 megapixels and a powerful 10x optical zoom, and it happened in 2013. Next year Samsung released Galaxy S5 has the fastest autofocus (0.3 seconds) among their devices at the time and HDR that worked in real time.
Of Galaxy S7 in 2016 was presented to the AF system and Dual Pixel wider aperture, allowing you to get brighter images even in low light. Galaxy Note 8 became the first Samsung smartphone with two main cameras, which to this day is the trend. It is also equipped with features such as optical image stabilization for both cameras and Live Focus for shooting bokeh.
After a couple of years without any significant improvements in the technology of mobile cameras Samsung released earlier this year, the Galaxy S10. The latest flagship of Samsung, according to many users, is the best camera phone to date, and Samsung continues to improve it, regularly releasing updates.
