Google has a long work on the implementation of analog technology for wireless data transmission AirDrop. It originally appeared on the Apple smartphones, most recently its own vision of the Protocol introduced Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo, and now, apparently, the ability to quickly share heavy files through the air will appear to everyone else. Anyway, that is the advantage of AirDrop over Bluetooth, which has a high enough data transfer speed.
AirDrop is a wireless technology from Apple that debuted in iOS 7 and OS X Lion. It is based on standards Bluetooth and Wi-Fi that the company's developers were able to "bind" together and to achieve high-speed transmission. AirDrop allows you to transfer data between smartphones, tablets, computers, and even between hours.
AirDrop for Android
Initially, the project technology of wireless data transmission for Android called Fast Share, as evidenced by sending out test builds of the operating system. The name, obviously, has been the development of high throughput. But whether Apple intervened and made it clear that it is not ready to tolerate the copying of his own ideas, whether the developers the search giant something did not happen, but in the end, the technology was renamed, calling it Nearby Sharing. Moreover, the sense to do so, the company really was.

As it turned out, the key feature of Nearby Sharing is not transfer speed as such, but the close proximity of the transmitting and receiving parties to each other. From the description of the function discovered by the team of XDA, it follows that Nearby Sharing requires that the device transmitter and the device receiver were at a distance of not more than one foot, which translated into the metric system equal to approximately 30 centimeters. That’s really really nearby (from the English. – close).
Than Nearby Sharing is different from AirDrop
I don’t know what forced Google to limit the distance at which the new data transmission technology, but from a practical point of view this may not be enough. It is not enough that the pairing is necessary to approach to each other closely, it can disperse, so as not to break the connection and not to cancel the transfer of uploaded files. AirDrop that works at a distance of several tens of meters, in this respect, which is considered private because it allows not to violate the personal space of another person.

However, it is possible that Google did so specifically to ensure the security of the new Protocol. Because, as you know, Apple users often complain that they are victims of newsletters by AirDrop with inappropriate content. And since the sender may be located at a distance of 50 to 100 meters, there is no hope to calculate the one who decided to turn the attempt of virtual harassment. Sharing with Nearby it couldn’t happen in principle, because the transfer is only under the condition that users are at least in sight of each other.
