About multitasking from Apple below. The remaining six innovation was interesting and important – but none of them was perceived so differently, and does not cause much controversy.
Folder. The idea is simple, and the need for it is long overdue – iPhone OS 3.x limit the number of installed applications: they could not be more 180. More than 11 pages of home screen does not fit.
And users got a taste of the App Store, and got a taste. To increase the number of pages was easy, but 11 pages was too much. Folders with up to 9 apps in a closed form takes the place of a single application. “Apple is unable to implement a simple and regular multitasking, what a shame!” is a summary quote from numerous media outlets of the time. And then – done?
No. Multi-tasking was impossible to implement in the iPhone OS: its support was in the system from the beginning. On several levels. And used, the system worked for several processes, without which she would be unable to perform its basic tasks.

Fast Application Switching was presented as the seventh service multitasking. The other six services are allowed limited set of tasks to execute in the background, under control of the system. Over time, the number of services grew, but the rules remained the same: the background execution of the task could be interrupted at any moment. Because of abuse of the task, but not only. The reason could be the deficiency of resources which is destroying the process had nothing.
Fast Application Switching was user interface “multitasking” in iPhone OS, and that he was the main innovation of the new system. And it was made “right.”
