Newly leaked screenshots offer a look at several potential iPhone 12 Pro Max features. According to these images, Apple is testing iPhone 12 Pro Max with a 120Hz display and support for adaptive refresh rate, as well as new camera features.
The screenshots were shared on Twitter by Jon Prosser , who has accurately predicted the release dates and features of Apple products in the past. The screenshots are claimed to be from a production validation (PVT) prototype of the iPhone 12 Pro Max with a 6.7-inch screen.
The first screenshot that Prosser shared shows new controls in the Settings app for the iPhone 12 Pro Max. There are two new toggle options here: enable high refresh rate and enable adaptive refresh rate. The first switch will allow iPhone 12 Pro users to enable the 120Hz refresh rate, while the second switch will allow the iPhone to automatically adjust between 120Hz and 60Hz according to the content displayed on the screen.
If that sounds familiar, it's because iPad Pro has offered premium support for ProMotion for several years now.
The Camera section of the Settings app shown here also provides a possible look at how to use the LiDAR scanner on iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max to improve image quality. There is a toggle option that allows users to enable LiDAR assisted auto focus and subject detection for video and night mode photography.
Other features suggested by this settings screen include 4K video recording at 120 fps and 240 fps, as previously reported. There are also references to "enhanced night mode" and "advanced noise reduction".
One of the important things to watch out for here is that these screenshots are taken from a Production Validation Test (PVT) sample of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. This means features can still be canceled and changed before the iPhone 12 is officially launched this fall. Moreover, the screenshots indicate that not all iPhone 12 PVT units feature all of this capabilities.
In the Settings app, Apple advises testers to check if your PVT model supports features such as high refresh rate and hardware-specific camera features. This means that some PVT iPhone 12 Pro Max models have 120Hz capabilities, and some are not.
