The matter began with Epic Games challenging the Google Play Store and App Store policies by offering its own method of payment as an alternative to paying through Google or Apple, so that the famous Fortnite game of its own would be deleted afterwards and things would take an upward curve.
Basically a financial conflict
Apple and Google's decision to delete Fortnite from the App Store was due to the fact that payments that are not made through them deprive them of a commission estimated at about 30%.
Google Play and App Store policies stipulate that purchases and payments in apps and games must be made through their own payment system.
The violation of Epic Games of these policies put Google and Apple in an embarrassing position, and it had no solution except for having to delete the game for violating policies and in the interest of its material interests.
Google and Apple view that leniency with developing companies such as Epic Games in violating store policies may push other companies to follow suit, which may expose them to financial losses by depriving them of the commission they earn from purchases made by players.
From the app store to the courts
After the decision to delete the game, Epic Games issued denunciative statements, and has also filed lawsuits against Apple and Google, accusing them of practicing monopolistic policies that harm competition.
More than that, Apple has threatened Epic Games to completely delete its account from the App Store, and prevent it from accessing development tools if it does not back down, according to what Epic Games' lawyer said.
More than this, Epic Games is currently conducting a media mobilization against Google and Apple and is trying to incite other companies to do the same with them. The game developing companies sympathized with Epic Games and had the same motives, but they could not delete their games from the store.
This video was published by Epic Games on YouTube and likened Apple to an evil power against which all players must stand up, and invited them to participate on social media via the hashtag #FreeFortnite
This may not be a problem for Android users, as they can download and install the game from external sources, since Android is an open source system, the problem in iOS is where players will not be able to download the Fortnite game again from outside the App Store.
Spotify partners with Epic Games
The Spotify music app also has the same problems with Apple and Google regarding the commission imposed on them, and it also has legal battles against Google and Apple.
Spotify announced its solidarity with Epic Games, but it seems that the latter will not succeed in mobilizing more other companies. The coming days will reveal the fate of this conflict.
