It seems that the era of push-button phones and so popular in the early 2000-ies of the clamshell is hopelessly gone. However, it is not so. Here, as with the famous gopher. Even if you don’t see him — he is still there. We have in mind the fact that in many respects the “classic” format devices are still popular and in great demand in the global arena. However, even these devices need modern technology. And not so long ago, two major companies — Nokia and Alcatel started manufacturing flip-phone with support for Google’s Assistant and other interesting features.
How does Google push-button phones?
Let’s first talk about the devices. Smartphones clamshell will be called Alcatel Go Flip 3, Smartflip Alcatel and Nokia 2720 Flip. I do not need to explain what the company what the machine produces. Gadgets from Alcatel have a connection to the cellular network, 4G LTE for voice calls, e-mail and surfing the Internet. Also here there is a slot for memory cards format MicroSD, and Quad-core processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 210.
Both smartphones have 2.8-inch main display, 1.44-inch display on the outside of the clamshell. Manufacturers say the gadgets can work up to 7 hours of continuous talk, LTE 4G on a single charge of the battery. In standby mode, smartphones can be up to 18 days with 4G enabled and up to 22 days 3G. Charging is via micro-USB, and for listening to music then there is a 3.5 mm headphone port. Ah, Yes, the smartphone has 2-megapixel camera. As you know, these smartphones are absolutely identical “internal” and differ only in design.
Gadget from Nokia looks almost. 2.8-inch screen with a resolution of 240×240, a 1.44 – inch external display, a Qualcomm processor 205, 512 megabytes of RAM (by the way, my previous smartphones, this figure is the same), the internal memory is 4 GB with support for memory cards microSD and the camera is 2 megapixels. Support 4G, and Wi-Fi module available. We would like to imagine some of these devices? Write in the comments and in our chat in Telegram.
Now the fun begins: the gadgets is controlled by the operating system called KaiOS version 2.5. No hint of Android there is not even close, but out of the box smartphones support Google Assistant, Google Maps, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and even WhatsApp. How is this possible? It’s simple: that together, Nokia and Alcatel — one was on hand operating system, and another experience in developing of applications for screens without touch.

Google now is triggered by special keys. It can be used for tasks such as calls, Radicofani texts, getting directions in Google Maps and launch other installed on the smartphone apps. All the other Google services and programs have appropriate icons and are run separately. The feedback applications have almost full set of features with their “older” versions, but use the same YouTube screen with a resolution of 240×240 — a very dubious pleasure.
