Google continues to constantly improve its services, programs, and devices. Recently, we talked about globally updated translator from the search giant, as you can read here. A little over a month ago, Google announced a new opportunity for my Assistant, also associated with speech translation. It was the possibility of translating a conversation between two people in real time. Even then, at CES, 2019, the company said about the work this function on columns Google Home and their smart displays, and the main purpose for this function is for use at the registration desks in hotels, airports and other locations often meet a large number of foreign visitors.
Such a translation in real time can be run multiple teams. For example, you can say, “Okay, Google! Be my translator for the Thai language”, “Help me to speak Spanish” or “Okay, Google! Open the translator”. After pronouncing the last option it asks which languages you want to translate. Now supports 26 languages.
A list of the currently supported languages like: Czech, Hungarian, Russian, Danish, Indonesian, Slovak, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, English, Japanese, Swedish, Finnish, Korean, Thai, French, Mandarin, Turkish, German, Polish, Ukrainian, Greek, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Hindi, Romanian.
The interface is a simultaneous interpreter on a smart display is similar to the interface of the application Google Translator – two horizontal columns, one which displays the speech, and the other its translation. There you can see a special icon and hear the sound notifying that it is possible to start talking.
Actually, now the translation function works perfectly. Two people cannot speak simultaneously, and after each spoken phrase to do a pause so the Assistant has processed it and was able to translate it.
New ability Google Assistant have already tested in hotels Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Dream Downtown in new York city and at the airport Hyatt Regency San Francisco. Any company that uses a new Assistant to help our foreign clients can customize the program interface to the home screen was displayed the company logo or brand. Undoubtedly, this will help Google to further penetrate the business segment.
Translation in real time – a thing, of course, interesting and without a doubt moves the world of technology another half step forward. No language barrier would solve a lot of problems. You can imagine many use cases for this functions and in some situations it may even save a life. If Google will be able to bring my Assistant to mind and he will learn to cope with the translation of speech do in real time while listening to multiple people, travel and interaction of people with people will become somewhat simpler.
