On the planet 6,000 languages. How and why are they there?

Speechless — a uniquely human quality that allowed him to rise up the evolutionary ladder. Why only man has the ability to verbal communication? In order to answer this tricky question, researchers from the Institute of evolutionary anthropology max Planck tried to simulate the process of developing a special communication system in your new experiment, which led to amazing results. So it became clear that even preschoolers can spontaneously develop communication systems that demonstrate the main properties of natural language. So how did almost 6000 languages that are used by the inhabitants of our planet?

According to the estimates of linguists on Earth there are about 6000 different languages

How did languages?

Then, how did the languages of the world, still remains largely a mystery to modern scientists. The researchers suggest that all languages were formed from those sounds and noises that people “overhear” the animals and interpreted them according to their physiological structure. So, over time, people learned to pronounce more sounds, which gradually turned into words and then into individual sentences. Other scientists believe that language emerged suddenly in humans, as is the ability to conduct verbal communication could be originally inherent in man. At a certain stage of evolution, humans just found out this very unique feature is gradually developing a new skill and all the more complicating it depending on the realities with which they had to face in everyday life. Proponents of this theory argue that humanity has acquired a much-needed gift as a result of mutations in DNA, which allowed us to learn unconsciously use it as an important resource for survival.

Communication could evolve mankind for several thousand years

One of the most promising theories about the origin of the great variety of modern languages is the so-called theory of language. According to her, as the evolution of mankind, we gradually created a special symbolic system, allowing ancient man to convey any idea to his tribesmen. So, people can unconsciously create certain links to the desired objects that resemble familiar objects. In addition, imitating each other, the ancient Homo Sapiens used the same signs to represent the same phenomena or objects, giving them a certain sense.

Over time the basic relationships between things and signs become more abstract, and the value of certain signs is more specific. New grammatical structures are introduced gradually and only as necessary to convey more complex facts. However, the most striking aspect of the latest research is that the communication process cannot be reduced only to the application of certain words. In that moment, when we are not able to use normal conversational language, there are always other ways to convey the desired message, which automatically forms the basis for the development of new languages. From this theory comes a logical conclusion about the existence of a hypothetical proto-language spoken by all the people of the primitive world. However, how exactly it was we are only left to guess.
