Not often to me to review get in-ear earphones (or “droplets”, “tablets”, “earbuds” and a bunch of other names), and I still believed that this is not my form factor. But sooner or later, appear models to reconsider their views, so let’s discuss Penon Audio BS1 Official Version.
Connoisseurs of portable audio, the company Penon is not necessary to provide one of the best known stores (mostly) Chinese headphones, iPods and other related products is not the first year pleases the fans of the sound. Recently they decided to start production under its own brand, was chosen for this two cables (judging by the reviews — very good) and two models of in-ear headphones. Today we are talking about the older model, although “seniority” here is very relative, asking for them $ 100 version with a conventional plug or 110 in the “balanced” version, and I can tell you that the potential buyer for the money gets everything that you could wish for.

Packing and delivery
I too romantisismo developers, but even in the choice of colors visible to the reasonableness of the box, the combination of purple and pale red shades look fancy and pretty stylish. However, on the packaging, even well done, admire no desire, open the lid, and here we are waiting for culture shock not only on the number of accessories, but from their execution. Except the headphones, you will get:
- wooden box for storage;
- velvet case (a nice beige color) on the button.
- 4 pairs solid foam nozzles;
- 4 pairs of foam tips with a hole “bagels”;
- two pairs of nozzles Hiegi (solid and “bagels”);
- plug wire attachment to the garment;
- Velcro for fixing the cable in winded position.
Attention to detail can be seen in everything from neatly arranged in the pack of nozzles and ending with two velvet panels on the top and bottom in a wooden box.
Design and comfortable wearing
The build quality is, of course, close to perfect. Case headphone, protection against fracture of the cable, plug and splitter — all metal.
The building is made of metal, average size (for inserts), despite the large speaker. I they got without problems, but maybe the owners of small ears can face difficulties. If desired, headphones can be put behind the ear, but for this form factor it will be overkill. Worn BS1 is very convenient, even for a long time, after all, the open ear canal is beneficial to the comfort. About soundproofing for the obvious reason, however.
Another advantage of headphones is the wire. Aesthetically pleasing-beautiful, excellent from the standpoint of practicality, the hybrid copper and pokerbring, it looks cool and easy to use. I’ve read complaints in other reviews that the cable is too thick, but I have no problems with it not experienced, because of the solid metal slider above the separator, the wire weight is distributed very well, and headphones (although in this case rather “vesnice”) can be fixed very well in my ears. The plug and the block splitter is made of metal with carbon fiber inserts that also looks impressive.
To listen following equipment was used.

Before listening headphones was heated for 60 hours, the change in sound was for the first 40-50 hours.
Before describing the sound, I note that in-ear earphones mostly depend on the specific structure of the external ear, so that the difference in the results may vary significantly from user to user. Below I describe my impressions of the sound, but the only guaranteed option to understand the BS1 sound is to hear them yourself.
Headphones sound, of course, depends on the attachments, after trying different options, I settled on Hiegi with holes, to me they give the most organic flow.
On the BS1 sound was very natural, with a slight bias toward the warm sound that adds to the flow of pleasant weight.
Bass is a bit accentuated, with most of the emphasis falls on the area below the midbass, which is a smart move, as it is NCH the first to suffer from background noise. In General, the “bottom” here is very balanced, a good weight is not at the expense of speed, resolution and detail textures. Of course, the speed characteristics of armature drivers here unattainable, but for ear scores are quite decent. Large 15 mm speaker (almost incredible for IEM size) pumps a large volume of air, providing the realism of sound and the metal casing removed reflections and resonances, which often suffer from cheap plastic models, which is popular ultra low price.
Mid frequencies are served with a small addition of heat, they are not super fast, but complaining about the loss of detail is not necessary. Midrange served in an emotional manner with some emphasis of macrodamages that many of the tracks reinforces the impression of sound. A small additive mass is good for most tools, they acquire a pleasant physicality and realism. Perhaps, the only exception are some male voices that become “too massive”, but this is rare. An imaginary scene here is also very good. The width of the liners are always one of the Champions of the compact segment BS1 and here is no exception, but they show themselves well and in depth: the vocals are brought forward a little, which emphasizes a fair division of plans.
Treble is slightly simplified from the point of view of attenuation and attack, just not perfectly crafted and layering, but at least the “top” here has good resolution and extent that provides realism in the transmission of overtones and reverberation. Also pleased with the almost complete absence of synthetic plaque in this part of the range. Special thanks to the developers for not steel clamping HF quantitatively in the attempt to create a “comfortable” sound.
Comparisons in this time will not back, as the other “tablets” to map I have, and to compare models of different form factor, I do not see much sense.
Perhaps, in this case to use headphones with your phone and other primitive sources makes no sense. They need the detail and control that allows to maximize their strengths. Player not desirable to have noisy, high sensitivity to this obviously pushes, although the ear background noise is still less noticeable.
Headphones stylistically versatile, but best of all, they are disclosed qualitatively recorded serious music that requires a good build volume and the right building images. The recording quality of the headphones is quite critical, but not beyond, where 7 of the conditional 10 points.
According to tradition, a few tracks as example
Miloš Karadaglić — Adagio. Well, Balkan artists on my compilations were, but directly from Montenegro for the first time. Guitar virtuoso from Podgorica long ago won the sympathy of viewers across Europe, but in this case we are interested in this very unusual arrangement of familiar tunes. Very smooth, almost delicate performance raises the bar of requirements that it requires from the headphones: detail, speed, naturalness, the scene is… With all this BS1 doing a great job.
Amon Amarth — The Way of The Vikings. A long time since the sets were not something more or less heavy, it would be necessary to correct this omission. After going through various options, I settled on this track, as in addition to the typical “strand” requirements he puts forward additional requirements to the audio (listen to the introduction — it will become clear why), but here the ear from Penon not fold. Of course, they are not as furious as a good full sized model, but because of the spectacular volume and good balance easy to bypass most of the IEM to create the effect of “epic”.
David Guetta & Sia — Flames. That’s really what wasn’t supposed to, so it’s inclusion in the compilation of this Duo of artists, although, as the proverb says, “never say never”. For electronic music (that are well recorded) advantages of liners are disclosed in full: the amount required for the effects of the naturalness of the vocals, the bass control — all the heroes of this review available. So even if you don’t like such styles, I advise you to join, the recording is not audiophile, but good tract very pleasant.
The case when the headphones turned out not only beautiful in appearance, but balanced sound. Complements is a nice price and incredible quality, noticeable even in small things. Despite the fact that I prefer IEM, BS1 made me pay attention to the ear, hope, familiarity with that form factor will continue.
