Despite the fact that global demand for smartphones in 2018 decreased by 3%, market premium devices shows stable growth. Because of this, revenue from global sales of smartphones grew by 5 percent, reaching $ 522 billion. This is stated in the research group GfK Group.
Analysts note that a significant contribution to the growth of the market for premium smartphones has made the iPhone, given the cost of the latest innovations. According to statistics, approximately 12% of all smartphones sold cost more than $ 800, which is 9 percent more than in 2017. Devices in the range from 150 to 400 dollars showed a more modest increase of 2%.
Experts GfK Group believe that the reason may be that consumers have a different approach to buying expensive smartphones:
For users was an important experience. It is easier to pay a higher price for a premium smartphone than to buy a cheap smartphone every six months to a year.
The largest shipments of smartphones comes from China. No wonder Apple wants to win positions in the region, given the huge potential of this market. And the decline in demand here, directly affects the entire market today.
The decline in demand in China in the fourth quarter of 2018, 19% had a significant impact on the global performance. Continued demand growth in developing Asia and in Central and Eastern Europe only partly compensated for the decline in China in the fourth quarter of last year, — reads the statement of the GfK Group, reports TASS.
However in this region, Apple has not yet made significant progress — as the competition from Chinese brands such as Huawei and Xiaomi, every year only grows.
