Qualcomm working on new Snapdragon processors, has shared new information regarding the Snapdragon chipset 855.
It became known that the company started sending out the chipsets to OEMs, and the first smartphone based on Snapdragon 855 will appear in the first quarter of 2019.
Also, according to rumors, the company will be renamed Snapdragon 855. Next flagship CPU will get the name “Snapdragon 8150”. This is done to ensure that consumers avoid confusion, because the line Snapdragon 850 is designed for laptops.
The new processor will work on 7-nanometer process technology, and the production of the chipset will be occupied by TSMC, not Samsung, which manufactures the Snapdragon 845. This is due to the fact that TSMC for the month ahead of Samsung in the development of a 7-nm solutions.
In addition, the Snapdragon 855 will support the 5G network through the modem Snapdragon X50. However, due to the fact that currently the market is in a transitional state, the standard version of the chipset get the modem Snapdragon X24, which is slightly inferior to the 5G solution. This modem capable of delivering download speeds up to 2 Gbit/sec, and upload speed of up to 316 MB/s. For example, Snapdragon 845 modem X20 outputs of 1.2 Gbps and 150 Mbps, respectively.
Chipset Snapdragon 8150 will be presented in Q4 of this year.
