Aboard the International space station for the first time in history began the experiment, in which the bio-printer will be printed Minorcan. The results of the experiment will be released in early 2019. The experiment was carried out by laboratory 3D Bioprinting Solutions. On Wednesday, December 5, reported the news edition of “RIA Novosti” owning the laboratory of the company “Invitro”.
Experimental bio-printer was sent to the ISS from Baikonur on 3 December.
“Cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko, previously trained in working with the bio-printer, began the experiment of printing living tissue on 4 December at 17:00 GMT. Technology of bioprinting of organs can be used for the treatment of cancer, in particular, increasing the speed of selection of essential drugs. With the ability to print living tissue, scientists will be able to check the toxicity of certain protivoallergichesky drugs that can be used in the treatment. This will allow you to more effectively choose treatment, causing least harm to the patient and to achieve maximum impact on the tumor.
Speaking about more remote prospects, the technology of bioprinting organs may be essential in the colonization of other planets in the Solar system. With the help of such devices, the colonialists will be able, if necessary, to create organs for transplantation.
