The famous British physicist Stephen Hawking died at 77 year of life. A scientist who spent most of his life in a wheelchair, is widely known as a popularizer of science. In recent years he has made a lot of predictions about the threats to the future of humanity.
Stephen Hawking was born 300-th anniversary of the death of astronomer Galileo and died on the thirtieth Day of PI. His whole life was devoted to the study of the question “where did the universe?”. And yet he showed by example to the world that you should never give up.
Stephen William Hawking was born on 8 January 1942 in Oxford, UK. His parents were scientists: his father is Frank Hawking was a specialist in tropical medicine, mother Isobel Hawking had a degree in Economics and worked as a Secretary at the medical research Institute. Parents were intellectuals and tried to raise children in a new way- not forced something to learn, and explained to the children all unknown. Why reading Steven has learned in only 8 years.

In childhood the young Hawking was interested in how everything works, he often discussed the mechanisms to see how they work. In 13 years, Stephen has raised a record player for records. His sister Mary says that he managed to beat Steven in checkers once, and chess, he remained invincible.

In 17 years, Stephen enrolled in the University of Oxford to the physics Department. The scientist claimed that in three years at the University to study spent approximately 1000 hours, that is, he studied about one hour a day. In addition, Hawking was fond of rowing (was steering), loved and frequently attended parties.

After graduation, Steven decided to specialize in cosmology. For this he went to graduate school in Cambridge. There he realized that science classes require daily work, even if you’re a genius.
New year’s eve 1963, was for Steven special – he met Jane Wilde and fell in love with her. In 1963, the doctors gave the young physicist was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. They could not offer any treatment and took him not more than 2.5 years of life. Despite this, Stephen and Jane decided to get married.

Their honeymoon the couple spent in new York – at a physics conference at Cornell University.
The disease at this time, unfortunately, progressed. In 1970, Hawking moved only with a wheelchair. Yourself and go to bed he could until 1974, and since then, the Professor’s house lived one of his graduate students, who for free accommodation and advice of Professor helped him.
In 1985, on vacation in Switzerland, Stephen Hawking picked up a chest infection that caused complications. The scientist was put into an artificial coma, doctors did not give any guarantees and even offered Jane to turn off its life support machine. But she refused and the infection has been overcome. As a result, doctors had to perform a tracheotomy that deprived the Professor’s voice.
Some time later a computer expert Walt, Voltas sent Hawking developed his own program which he called Equalizer. With the switch in the palm of a Professor could choose on screen from the system menu. The selected word was spoken by a speech synthesizer, which has become a “name-brand” voice of Hawking.
Fame Hawking brought his popular science book “a brief history of time: from the Big Bang to black holes”. The book was translated into dozens of languages and published a total circulation of more than 10 million copies. In predislovii Professor wrote:
I was told that each placed in the book, the formula will reduce by half the number of buyers. Then I decided to do without formulas. However, in the end I still wrote one equation – Einstein’s famous equation E = mc2.
One of the main achievements of Hawking is the description of black hole radiation. The scientist made a hypothesis that black holes of low mass lose energy, “evaporate”, emitting radiation from their event horizon, and, eventually, die. This phenomenon is called “Hawking radiation”.
In addition, he studied the problem of the origin of cosmological singularity – the initial state of the Universe from which it is, according to the theory of the Big Bang, is constantly expanding. Hawking believed that before the Big Bang there was neither time nor space, and the universe was compressed to the size of a single atom.
The importance and interest of his works underlines the fact that when, in October 2017, the archives of Cambridge University posted on its website the full text of Hawking’s thesis about the study of the Universe, its less than a day have downloaded more than 60 thousand people, then the site just “down”, unable to cope with the influx of users.
Also Stephen Hawking thought a lot about the future of humanity, expressing their predictions and warning the public from making mistakes. The scientist believed that in the future climatic conditions on Earth will become unbearable for mankind. In his opinion, our planet may repeat the fate of Venus and turn into a real hell because of the heat. Scientist predicted that the average temperature on Earth will reach 460° C, if humanity does not reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Also Hawking believed that robots will soon become “new life form” that can trump people. The scientist stressed that artificial intelligence can ever replace people, although did not specify the timing of their predictions.

The way to avoid man-made disaster, the scientist seen in the establishment of colonies on other planets and relocation in the next hundred years. According to Hawking, the period of 30 years is enough to establish a base on the moon, and 50 years on Mars.

Stephen Hawking has lived an amazing life. He was twice married and has three children. He is the recipient of many awards, he has 12 honorary degrees, among them a member of the Royal society of London (1974), member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (1986), member of the National Academy of Sciences USA (1992). He voiced himself in the popular cartoon series “the Simpsons” and “Futurama”, appeared in episodes of popular TV series. He did a lot to popularize science.
He proved that it is impossible to give up.
