5% of programs collect information on the movements of the child and copy the contents of his address book. Another 19% share personal information of children with third parties. 39% violate Google’s rules about tracking the actions of underage users on the Network to transmit this information to advertisers. The remaining programs do not comply with basic requirements of data security, increasing the risk of theft by third parties.
This study is extremely important for understanding how vulnerable children using smartphones and tablets, said Douglas A. Levin, an analyst with EdTech Strategies. According to him, Google should take a more thorough approach to the issue of security of minors. Otherwise, the case could result in lawsuits from concerned parents.
