Every year Sweden takes the contest Delsbo Electric, in which students try to develop a vehicle that consumes minimal energy. To participate in the contest they are required to collect a rail vehicle on the battery, but to win — to drive the path length of 3.36 kilometers and to preserve the maximum amount of the charge. A team of students from Dilerskogo Institute and the Technical University of Chalmers has become a legend, because it ranked first for the fourth consecutive year.
In 2016, the team broke the world record energy efficiency with the help of his rail car Eximus 1 500-watt motor. It was made from aluminium and weighed only 100 pounds, so the transport of one passenger weighing about 50 pounds, it took just 0,84 watt-hours per kilometer. The car had only one big disadvantage to overcome three kilometers it required a whole 20 minutes.
The most economical car
A team of students improved the design of the machine every year, and in 2019 came to the competition with the fourth version called the Eximus IV. This time novice engineers focused on aerodynamic properties of its rail transport. In particular, they used an ultralight aircraft materials and has equipped the car with a new motor and wheels, and then tested inside a wind tunnel.
Machine Eximus IV still cannot boast high operating speed and can be outrun even by bike. This time, however, the unit demonstrated improved energy efficiency to transport one person to a kilometer distance, it took only 0,603 watt-hours of energy. According to representatives of Delsbo Electric, this means that to cover a distance of 75 miles on the energy contained in one tablespoon of gasoline.

Second place in the competition took Acus V with an efficiency of 1.14 watt-hour — it was created by students of the Technological University of luleå. The third finalist was the camera Rail S. N. A.
