Earlier this month, the company OPPO and Xiaomi teased the whole world the short video, which saw a very real and working, but this incredible technology is selfie camera, located directly in the smartphone display. Passed, by and large, only a few days since, and today at MWC in Shanghai, OPPO has lifted the curtain of his technology by telling us some key details of how it works.
OPPO said that they started research in this area in 2017, and the official development started in may 2018. All this ultimately resulted in what we saw today. The company uses the special camera module, which has a larger sensor than a normal selfie camera, wider aperture and larger pixels.

But “iron filling” is only part of this complicated technology: built-in screen camera requires a large amount of software processing to produce a result commensurate with what we get from cameras of modern smartphones. OPPO has placed particular emphasis on improved algorithms HDR and removing a white haze effect that occurs when shooting on this camera.
Although the company claims that image quality, which it turns out her new camera, “close to the quality of conventional smartphones”, to check this, you need to take the device in hand and test it in the field, but not in the lab, as does OPPO.
What else you need to know about podarennoe camera OPPO?
OPPO itself says that at the moment there are several obstacles that must be overcome when placing the camera under the screen, namely glare, diffraction, incorrect colors, smoke and noise.
All this means that the OPPO definitely still have work to do and that the quality of the pictures with her camera leaves much to be desired. The latter, incidentally, quite obviously, since a sufficient amount of light simply cannot pass through the screen to reach the camera’s sensor, because no matter how transparent the screen is not able to become, it is still no match for the crystal clear sapphire glass.
Despite quality problems, the area of the screen above the front camera still supports touch control. In addition, OPPO claims that the camera supports face unlock, portrait mode, smart mode beutification, filters and other popular selfie function, typical of Chinese smartphones. The company also claims that its technology is ideal for devices with a moisture protection.

Chinese brand not mentioned no even approximate release dates of the device with the new technology, but plans to improve it, adding some better materials for the screen, “revised structure of pixels” and support various camera modules. This is encouraging, because it means that the quality of the photos still may rise significantly, until the final device in the market.
