5G promises to be the technology of the next decade. High throughput coupled with extensive coverage resulted in a proliferation of augmented and virtual reality, cloud services and wearable electronics. But before all this can be put into practice, it is necessary to start production of smartphones with support networks of the fifth generation, which, apparently, will be the basis for all planned initiatives. Another thing is that while it is possible not all manufacturers, and here’s why.

To equip the smartphone with support for 5G, it’s not just set in its case compatible modem, as many think, although without it, of course, also nothing happens. For this, you need to completely rework the design of the device, providing effective cooling and antennas, which would meet the requirements of the fifth generation networks. And that’s not to mention the need to find space for an increase of 20% of the printed circuit Board and over 500 accessory components which are important to be placed in such a way that they are, first, to make it operational, and, secondly, do not interfere with adjacent parts.
Less than 5G is different from 4G
Such complexity is dictated by the fact that 5G, unlike LTE, is a high technology. Wave of fifth generation networks are poorly pass through obstacles, so they require a greater number of antennas. If the network of the fourth generation can do only four groups of antennas arranged, for example, the top and bottom of the housing of the smartphone, for 5G there should be no less than 12. The only way to ensure stable signal transition for 5G, which otherwise risk to break and not provide the proper quality of connection.

Hence another difficulty. The fact that each group of antennas requires the output, which violates the structural strength. The more on the case holes and adhesions, the stronger its strength is reduced, and thus, increases the probability of inflicting critical damage when falling or hitting a hard surface. In order to avoid the components inside the smartphone features thus to minimize the risk of irreparable damage.
As 5G is affecting smartphone
Well, of course, one should not forget that higher bandwidth 5G leads to an increase in data consumption compared to 4G smartphones by 50-100%. As a result, increased heat dissipation, which must somehow be offset. And since to do this with standard cooling systems fail, you need to come up with something more effective. Therefore, the majority of phones with support of networks of the fifth generation use liquid cooling.

As you can see, the process of layout and production of 5G smartphones are really complicated and quite expensive. Therefore, many producers seek to allocate compatible devices in a separate line, so as to give consumers to understand that the device with support of networks of the fifth generation is still an experimental device at a high price to buy that is only if you understand exactly what it is you need. However already next year the company plans to launch 5G cheap smartphones that cost will start from $ 140.
