What is the complexity of creating 5G-smartphone

5G promises to be the technology of the next decade. High throughput coupled with extensive coverage resulted in a proliferation of augmented and virtual reality, cloud services and wearable electronics. But before all this can be put into practice, it is necessary to start production of smartphones with support networks of the fifth generation, which, apparently, will be the basis for all planned initiatives. Another thing is that while it is possible not all manufacturers, and here’s why.

To equip the smartphone with support for 5G, it’s not just set in its case compatible modem, as many think, although without it, of course, also nothing happens. For this, you need to completely rework the design of the device, providing effective cooling and antennas, which would meet the requirements of the fifth generation networks. Such complexity is dictated by the fact that 5G, unlike LTE, is a high technology. Wave of fifth generation networks are poorly pass through obstacles, so they require a greater number of antennas. If the network of the fourth generation can do only four groups of antennas arranged, for example, the top and bottom of the housing of the smartphone, for 5G there should be no less than 12. The only way to ensure stable signal transition for 5G, which otherwise risk to break and not provide the proper quality of connection.

As 5G is affecting smartphone

Well, of course, one should not forget that higher bandwidth 5G leads to an increase in data consumption compared to 4G smartphones by 50-100%. As a result, increased heat dissipation, which must somehow be offset. And since to do this with standard cooling systems fail, you need to come up with something more effective.
